Extremely elegant, evening gown designed by Cecil Beaton. This new/old stock gown retains its original tag from the famous “28 Shop” in Chicago’s flagship Marshall Field store. It reads “28 Shop Originals Marshall Field and Company”. The attached paper price tag reads “CB Cecil Beaton Lemon/Satin”.
The gown has a classic form. The bodice is fitted and strapless. The underskirt is a pale, lemon yellow satin with a rounded hem that overlaps in the front where it curves upward giving a peek at the ankles. The overlaying fabric is a chiffon the color of lemon juice that falls straight in front and then cascades down the sides to a full back with almost a train. The chiffon is trimmed along the top in black velvet with a scalloped edge and embellished with glass “sequins”, beads, rhinestones and metallic embroidery of floral sprigs and crescent moons.
